Convenience Stores

With Almost 153,000
Locations,

The convenience store and gas station industry (“c-store”) is the largest retail channel in the U.S. – three times bigger by number of locations than comparable verticals, responsible for over $550 billion in annual sales.

Despite its size, however, this industry struggles to compete – it fails to offer consumers a seamless, omnichannel experience; it is less capable of marketing to increasingly sophisticated shoppers; it has difficulty incorporating new forms of payment; and it suffers continual pressure from adjacent verticals such as dollar, drug and grocery.

Addressable Market.

Within c-store, smaller independent retailers represent over 75% of the industry, with over 110,000 locations, and of those, almost 95,000 – 62% of the industry – are single-site operators. Unlike larger chains, which have big budgets and dedicated I.T. teams, these small operators have little capital and virtually no technology expertise.

They face even larger challenges, having not only to run their businesses efficiently, but also to compete against larger c-store chains and against retailers in other verticals.
